Click on each tube and listen for the echo at the nozzle. If the echo is higher, it is sharper and has been annealed. Higher spacing echoes can be produced without annealing due to the more uniform and dense internal crystal structure of the annealed section. Due to a large number of tissue defects, which can absorb part of the sound energy, the tone at the nozzle is low and dull. If possible, it can be detected by sonar.

(2)Use a more accurate digital multimeter to measure the resistance per unit length (eg 2 meters). The resistance of stainless steel should be measurable. Annealed steel has less electrical resistance than it would without annealing. Dry before testing, free from liquid. These methods can distinguish between annealed and non-annealed stainless steel welded pipe.
